Camp Phoenix

Each summer, Camp Phoenix provides approximately 350 kids from the greater Memphis area with the opportunity to experience the great outdoors face-to-face. Campers participate in activities such as: Canoeing, Hiking, Swimming, Fishing, Archery, Nature Study, Astronomy, Recycling, Environmental Studies, Talent Shows, Racquetball, and Crafts.

Camp Phoenix is an American Camping Association accredited Residential Camp located on 175 beautifully wooded acres on the shores of Sardis Lake in Como, Mississippi.

Camp Director – Dave Keigan

Born and raised in Braintree, MA. Dave spent his summers in Maine on Sebago Lake where learned to swim, fish, canoe and exploring the woods. Dave attended Catawba College in Salisbury, NC where he majored in Physical Education & Health and pitched for the baseball team. He also has an AA in Recreational Leadership and did graduate work at Lang Beach State, CA.

Dave moved to Southern California where he started working for the Boys & Girls Club as Shop Director and worked his way up to Program Director.  He became Camp Director of Pathfinder Ranch for the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Springs 1983. As Camp Director, he increased the operating budget from $250,000 to over $1,000,000 and developed an Advancement Program that inspired campers to come back year after year. He spent several years as a successful real estate agent in Southern California before jumping back into the organized camping field with Georgia Council of Campfire USA.

David joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis in February 2009 to Direct Camp Phoenix. David Looks forward to providing the children of Memphis a safe, challenging, educational and rewarding summer camp experience.
